Welcome to the Fall 2017 Season!

Welcome back for the fall 2017 CJSA and Elm City season!

Hopefully by now you got your CT Referee re-certification all done for 2017.  There were quite a few rule changes this time around.  Please pay careful attention to the headball and head injury rules.  Basically, as it stands, U12 age groups and up can head the ball while those below can't.  If you suspect that there was a concussion (at any age group), have the coach/trainer escort the player off the field and looked at by a certified medical professional.  (Coaches must inform you that they have a certified medical professional (CMP) at their disposal before the match starts).  Those players who you suspect may have had a concussion can't re-enter without the CMP's OK.

Another key rule change is that coaches/trainers can now attend to non-seriously injured players on the field -whereas they used to have to be carried off for attention.  In these situations, you should expect the attention to be expedient - shouldn't take more than 2-3 minutes.  Then the game should be re-started.  Serious injuries are different of course, for which you must allow all the time in the world if necessary.

As a refresher, I also recommend that you check out the instructional tutorials and review videos on this blog site (click on the link).  It's a great way to prepare for the coming season.

As always, I will send out the NHYS home game schedule for the coming week on Sunday nights.  You can then confirm the games that you would like to officiate for the following weekend.  Referees who get back to me earliest will get first dibs.  If you have any preferences (days, time slots, age groups etc.), please let me know.

Thanks,
