Welcome to the Fall 2017 Season!

Welcome back for the fall 2017 CJSA and Elm City season!

Hopefully by now you got your CT Referee re-certification all done for 2017.  There were quite a few rule changes this time around.  Please pay careful attention to the headball and head injury rules.  Basically, as it stands, U12 age groups and up can head the ball while those below can't.  If you suspect that there was a concussion (at any age group), have the coach/trainer escort the player off the field and looked at by a certified medical professional.  (Coaches must inform you that they have a certified medical professional (CMP) at their disposal before the match starts).  Those players who you suspect may have had a concussion can't re-enter without the CMP's OK.

Another key rule change is that coaches/trainers can now attend to non-seriously injured players on the field -whereas they used to have to be carried off for attention.  In these situations, you should expect the attention to be expedient - shouldn't take more than 2-3 minutes.  Then the game should be re-started.  Serious injuries are different of course, for which you must allow all the time in the world if necessary.

As a refresher, I also recommend that you check out the instructional tutorials and review videos on this blog site (click on the link).  It's a great way to prepare for the coming season.

As always, I will send out the NHYS home game schedule for the coming week on Sunday nights.  You can then confirm the games that you would like to officiate for the following weekend.  Referees who get back to me earliest will get first dibs.  If you have any preferences (days, time slots, age groups etc.), please let me know.

Thanks,

Free CT Referee Pre-season Clinics

Now's a great time to brush up on your officiating skills, in case they got a little rusty over the winter break.

The following preseason clinics are being offered by the Connecticut State Referee Program.  It is important to attend one of these clinics to brush up on your officiating skills.  All are FREE to attend. To register, log into the e-referee system and click on the last link, register for a referee event.  To find the detail of a particular clinic, click on one of the In Service links below:

As you already know , CSRP is encouraging all referees to attend an  inservice clinic before 2016  recertification.  As such, a  change has been  implemented to the recertification  process. If an  individual  attends an inservice clinic the  recertification process will  be as it has in the past.  If they do not attend an  inservice clinic before  recertification there will be  additional online  components to complete  during the  recertification process. If you have not already attended an inservice session, you may register for one of the sessions below by To register for one of these sessions logging into the e-referee system on the left hand side of www.ctreeree.net.  Once logged in you will scroll to the last box and click on register for a referee event.  On the next page click on the down arrow for event type and then click on clinics and courses.   Choose the course you for which you would like to register, click off the two release of liability and then submit.  We have added a new feature to the referee system, all clinics to which you are registered with clinic detail are  now  posted to your log in page.  If you are not sure if your clinic registration has gone through, please check your registration page.
